BB Engineering’s new spinning package with two-step filtration for recycled yarns and more

BB Engineering unveiled its new, patented ValuePack spinning package at the ITM trade show in Istanbul, featuring a two-stage filtration system designed to improve performance in recycling processes.

Conventional spinning packs use either metal powder (‘sand’) or filter cartridges as filter media. Sand packs deliver high melt homogeneity and are best suited for virgin material, while packages with filter cartridges offer a larger filter area and were originally developed for recycling applications. The larger filter area improves filtration performance and extends service life, but the lower flux rate and shear can affect homogeneity negatively.

The ValuePack combines both approaches – metal sand and filter cartridges – in a two-step filtration process. The melt first passes through the filter cartridge, where it is filtered down to 15 μm across a large filter surface area. It then flows through the sand chamber, where homogenization and shearing take place. The result, according to the company, is significantly improved homogeneity in temperature and viscosity, better spinning performance, and higher yarn quality. The benefits are said to be most pronounced in recycling processes, though the two-stage filtration may also offer advantages in other demanding or quality-critical applications.

An additional feature of the ValuePack is its pressure-independent seal, which helps prevent leaks that can occur with self-sealing packages and allows for a wider process window. Existing systems can be retrofitted to accommodate the ValuePack, which is slightly longer due to its design.

At the ITM trade show, visitors were able to view a VR animation demonstrating how the ValuePack functions. BB Engineering positions the development as an extension of its expertise in synthetic fiber spinning and recycling.
