
Milliken & Company has introduced Millibrite, a fabric whitening technology designed for modern laundry care formulations. Many conventional optical brighteners rely on ultraviolet (UV) light, which the company said is increasingly limited in modern indoor environments dominated by LED lighting. Millibrite is said to address this through proprietary polymer-based chemistry that deposits controlled amounts of blue-violet color onto fabric surfaces. According to the company, this process helps neutralize yellowing that develops over time, delivering a brighter appearance across wash cycles.
“Whiteness remains one of the most important signals of cleanliness, but the way consumers experience it has changed,” said Dirk Vanhee, sales and marketing director for Milliken’s polymer solutions business in Europe. “Millibrite is designed to deliver consistent, visible results across real-world conditions, from LED-lit homes to natural daylight.”
The company said Millibrite delivers visible whitening performance under a range of lighting conditions, including environments with minimal UV exposure, and is engineered to provide consistent brightness indoors and outdoors while helping reduce over-blue or uneven results.
Millibrite is also said to support formulation flexibility and compatibility across detergent systems, integrating into both liquid and powder formulations and performing on a variety of fiber types, including natural and synthetic fabrics.
The company noted that the technology aligns with sustainability trends in home care, enabling performance in cold and low-temperature wash programs and helping extend garment life by reducing reliance on harsh bleaching agents.
