Supreme Nonwoven, a manufacturer of advanced nonwoven materials, plans to establish its first manufacturing facility in the United States, investing USD 25.8 million in a new production site in Lexington, North Carolina. The project is expected to create 50 new jobs, which the company said would strengthen North Carolina’s position as a hub for technical textiles and nonwoven manufacturing.
The investment was disclosed by North Carolina governor Josh Stein, who highlighted the state’s textile innovation history and skilled manufacturing workforce. “I am proud to welcome Supreme Nonwoven and the good jobs it will bring to Davidson County,” Stein said. “This announcement reinforces what the world already knows: North Carolina is a premier destination for textile innovation.”
Expanding global nonwoven manufacturing
Supreme Nonwoven is part of India-based Supreme Group, a company founded in 1986 that supplies advanced nonwoven materials to customers in the apparel, automotive, filtration, hygiene, and industrial sectors. The new 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Lexington will serve as a production center and a technical collaboration hub, according to the company, enabling it to work with North American customers on customized nonwoven material solutions.
According to Amit Kavrie, managing director of Supreme Group, the investment represents a long-term commitment to the U.S. market. “Our decision to establish this facility in North Carolina reflects our commitment to serving the U.S. market with locally manufactured nonwoven materials while building a foundation for long-term growth,” Kavrie said.
Technical collaboration at the core
The Lexington operation will support product development, customer-specific applications, and technical collaboration, allowing Supreme Nonwoven to respond to market requirements, the company said. Manoj Swain, director of international operations at Supreme Group, said the company aims to combine local capabilities with the group’s global expertise. “Lexington offers us a strong base from which to support customers with responsiveness, technical collaboration, and reliable execution,” Swain said.
North Carolina reinforces leadership in nonwovens
State officials highlighted North Carolina’s position within the US textile industry. According to North Carolina commerce secretary Lee Lilley, the state hosts the nation’s largest concentration of nonwoven manufacturers and maintains the second-largest textile manufacturing workforce in the United States, supported by an ecosystem of research institutions, technical talent, and industrial expertise.
Jobs and economic impact
The investment will create 50 new positions with an average annual salary of approximately USD 55,800, slightly above the average wage in Davidson County. The project is expected to generate an annual payroll impact of nearly USD 2.8 million for the local economy. To support the investment, the company has been awarded a USD 100,000 performance-based grant through North Carolina’s One North Carolina Fund, which assists companies creating new jobs and making significant capital investments.

The new facility represents a milestone in Supreme Group’s international expansion strategy, bringing manufacturing capacity closer to North American customers while reinforcing the company’s presence in the global nonwoven materials market.
