Arclin, a materials science company, has launched Kevlar EXO XP E480, a new addition to its personal protection portfolio. The product combines the ballistic and trauma-reduction performance of Kevlar XP technology with Kevlar EXO fiber. It is designed to help body armor manufacturers make lighter armor that meets NIJ Level IIIA/HG2 protection requirements, and it is now available for evaluation to customers worldwide.
According to the company, the lighter weight is intended to improve wearer comfort, mobility and operational effectiveness.
“Protective equipment is only effective if users can wear it comfortably throughout their entire mission,” said Joe Hovanec, vice president of Kevlar EXO at Arclin. “With Kevlar EXO XP E480, manufacturers can achieve armor that is up to 25% lighter and provides up to 40% greater comfort, helping reduce fatigue while maintaining the trusted protection users depend on.”
The company said the material is engineered for demanding field conditions and combines high stopping power, bullet-flattening performance and durability in a lighter-weight construction. Its fiber architecture is also said to help reduce layer counts and stitching requirements, which can enable streamlined armor designs and potentially lower manufacturing complexity and labor costs.
