Tokyo-headquartered ITOCHU has signed a license agreement for Fruit of the Loom, for which the company holds the master license rights, with Jakarta-headquartered PT Brightspot Indonesia. Fruit of The Loom is a brand of apparel products and underwear belonging to Fruit of the Loom, which the company describes as one of the largest underwear makers in the USA, with business in 20 countries worldwide and 20,000 employees.
Fruit of The Loom has provided basic clothing for more than 170 years, and according to the company, its fruit logo is widely recognized across the United States. The company describes its products around the concept of ‘comfortable lifestyle goods for everyone,’ and says the brand is sold in more than 60 countries worldwide, across a range of demographics.
ITOCHU acquired the master license rights for Fruit of The Loom in the Asian markets in May 2024. In January 2025, ITOCHU signed license agreements with partners in South Korea and China, expanding the brand’s presence in the Asian market. The brand’s visibility in the Japanese apparel market has also been increasing.
ITOCHU is working to strengthen brand recognition in South Korea and China by expanding its sales channels and collaborating with partners in other industries, including a café chain and an airline.
PT Brightspot, with which ITOCHU has signed the agreement, is a company in Indonesia handling a range of products including apparel and lifestyle items. Through its own select shops and the online platform ‘THE GOODS DEPT’, PT Brightspot brings international brands to the Indonesian market. The company also organizes ‘brightspotMRKT’, a fashion event it says attracts up to 200,000 visitors per edition.
ITOCHU has set out a management policy called ‘The Brand-new Deal – Profit opportunities are shifting downstream –’, under which it is expanding into business areas closer to consumers as needs diversify with social change. Going forward, ITOCHU will directly manage shops in department stores and shopping malls, as well as online, using Brightspot’s network.
ITOCHU said it aims to strengthen the branding of Fruit of The Loom in the retail sector through its partnership with Brightspot in Indonesia’s apparel market, which it described as expanding amid population growth, with the goal of increasing the brand’s value across the Asian market, including Japan.
